Marcus Rashford is keen on a loan move from Manchester United to Barcelona and could complete a permanent move to the club after impressing in La Liga this season
Marcus Rashford and Barcelona are already in talks over the possibility of a permanent move at the end of the season. The La Liga champions have the option to complete the forward’s loan deal with Manchester United.
Rashford, 28, has impressed in his first few months at the Catalan club. The forward scored five goals and provided seven assists in his debut season at the Camp Nou under coach Hansi Flick.
According to reports in Spain, Rashford’s agent is already in talks with club officials to reach an agreement. And Barça admit that any decision on Rashford will be key to their future strategy.
With the team’s limited salary space and persistent financial issues, there is uncertainty over Robert Lewandowski’s future, and an agreement for Rashford will impact on their ability to sign top centre-forwards. It is said that “financial engineering” will be necessary to build consensus.
The paper claims Rashford could be offered a long-term contract until 2030, subject to a pay cut. The United academy product has already taken a pay cut to join Barcelona this season and if his form continues, he may need to take a pay cut next summer, even if competition for his contract intensifies.

Sporting director Deco has already warned that decisions on players such as Rashford, Lewandowski and Andreas Christensen will be taken at the end of the season. However, the club appear happy to extend Rashford’s stay in Catalonia.
Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is disappointed that Rashford’s success meant he had to leave Old Trafford. The forward did not take part in the Red Devils’ pre-season before agreeing to a loan move.
“Honestly, I’d love to see him do that at Man United,” he told BBC Sport’s Wayne Rooney Show podcast, admitting he was disappointed with how the England star’s United career had turned out.
“But no, listen…I think the first few games weren’t the easiest start. And people were talking about him, but he’s put his head down and is doing well and playing well. And that’s great to see for any young English player, especially someone you know and want to do well,” he added.
“Listen, Marcus Rashford is a top, top player at his best. That’s what we all want to see and we just hope he stays calm and continues to perform and continues to work. If he does that, I don’t think there’s any doubt in his ability.”
