‘It was really tough’ – Amorim reflects on his first year at Manchester United

The former United player, who left the club for the second time at the end of 2022, sat down with Piers Morgan to share his thoughts on the club and insist that change is needed.
Ronaldo made scathing comments about the club while also defending Amorim, adding that the Portuguese coach was “trying his best”.
“He’s doing his best,” Ronaldo said. “What are you going to do? A miracle? Miracles are impossible. In Portugal they say, ‘Miracles are only in Fatima,’ but he’s not going to perform miracles.”
He added: “We know that as a club we have made a lot of mistakes in the past and we are trying to change that. Let’s stop focusing on what happened[in the past].”
“We’re changing a lot of things, like the structure and the behavior we want from our players. We’re improving. Let’s forget about the past a little bit.”
Ronaldo left United to join Real Madrid in 2009 and returned to Old Trafford in 2021 after leaving Juventus.
When he joined the club for the second time, he became embroiled in problems with then-manager Erik ten Hag, whom he had openly criticized in previous interviews.
Ronaldo added: “It’s a shame because this club is one of the most important clubs in the world and it’s still a club that is close to my heart.”
“They have no structure. I hope that changes now and in the future because the potential of the club is great.”

‘We lost control’ – Amorim after Manchester United draw 2-2 with Nottingham Forest

United, who are still eighth in the table, are starting to improve, but the number of goals conceded by Amorim’s side remains a cause for concern.
“This is a problem, especially if you look at the league these days. Teams that win a lot of games don’t struggle with goals or shots on target. It’s an important game, especially when you have talented players,” the coach said.
“You can score a goal with one chance and win the game. But I think it’s more about the team. We need to defend better. We need to be more aggressive. And the more energy we have, the better we defend.”
“We have a lot of work to do and we can’t afford to concede so many goals. We need to improve.”
