Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said the club would provide financial support to fans who needed medical care on board the Huntingdon train where the stabbing occurred.
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said the club would ensure that the fans involved in the horrific Huntingdon train attack received the “best possible medical care” and that the club would “receive all financial support”.
The Premier League side issued a statement praising supporters who “showed extraordinary courage” following the stabbing on a London-bound train on Saturday night, with the club confirming that several fans were on board after the draw with Manchester United that afternoon.
News broke on Saturday night that a train from Doncaster to London’s King’s Cross was the subject of a stabbing, which police said happened in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. Both men arrested are British nationals, but so far there is no information to suggest the attack was “terrorism related”.
Marinakis said: “Everyone at Nottingham Forest is shocked and deeply saddened by what happened. The courage and selflessness shown by our supporters on that train represents the best of humanity and the club’s community.”
“We will ensure that those involved in this incident receive the best possible medical care and all necessary financial support as they recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.”

Joe, who was returning from a game between Forest and United, said the scene was “like something out of a movie”. The 24-year-old, from south-east London, told the BBC: “I was emailing a friend about my plans for the night and a bunch of people came rushing out of the carriage and saying ‘Run, run’ and run through.”
In a statement, the club said: “Nottingham Forest Football Club would like to express its deepest concerns and sympathies to all those affected by the shocking attack on a London-bound LNER train yesterday evening. Many of our London-based supporters were traveling home on that train after the match at the City Ground and our thoughts are with everyone involved in such a tragic incident.”
“The club recognizes that many people have shown extraordinary courage, which undoubtedly helped to prevent further damage. The entire Nottingham Forest family has our firm support as they recover from yesterday’s events.”
In the immediate aftermath of the incident last night, nine people were treated in hospital for life-threatening injuries. Four of them have since been discharged from hospital. The incident occurred on the 6.25pm train from Doncaster to the capital, with some passengers saying the attack began to unfold shortly after the train left Peterborough.
