Burnley 0-2 Arsenal: Goals from Victor Gokeres and Declan Rice kept Arsenal in good form with three points at Turf Moor in the Premier League.

Arsenal continued their early season title charge with a comfortable win over Burnley at Turf Moor. Mikel Arteta’s side extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over the Clarets, but Victor Goqueres’ half-time substitution caused some anxiety.

Arsenal scored again from a corner kick and Gokeres took the lead with a goal from close range. After Gabriel Magalhães won the first ball, the striker cleaned up the play and got on the scoresheet.

The Gunners took advantage of Burnley’s set pieces to extend their lead. Gökeres got involved again, pushing the visitors forward during the break. The Swede fed Leandro Trossard with a sharp ball, whose cross was headed in by Declan Rice.

Scott Parker’s side were unable to get a shot on target until the second half, but Arsenal looked equally complete in attack and defense. The north London side were comfortable but were unable to add to their goal tally.

There may be concerns for Arteta after Gokeres was replaced by Martin Zvimendi. The Spaniard was down but was replaced by Christian Norgaard in the final stages of the game, shaking his head as he returned to the dugout.

trust

Arsenal may have addressed depth concerns in the summer, but Mikel Arteta will do his best to start his best players if possible. There was uncertainty over William Saliba’s fitness, but the Frenchman started against Burnley after training on Friday, even though it was a match the north London side were expected to beat.

“He was skeptical but he did it,” Arteta said. “He trained yesterday and is feeling good. We made some changes midweek but today he is back in the same team (from last week’s game against Crystal Palace).”

However, rotation in the Carabao Cup meant there was no pressure on Saliba to rush back, allowing him to prepare for his return to Turf Moor. When you have one of the best defensive partnerships in the division, it makes sense that you don’t want to let it go.

set piece FC

Arsenal once again scored from a set-piece and the fans are understandably happy about it. For the Gunners, corner kicks are celebrated like goals of the moment, and their expertise is paying off.

Their opponents’ complaints only make each set-piece more satisfying, and on Saturday Arsenal became the first team in Premier League history to score eight goals from corners in the first 10 games of the season.

Results cannot be discussed.

gokeres fire

The signing of Arsenal’s star striker in the summer has ensured that there will be some healthy monitoring of Viktor Gokeres’ form. Expectations were high following his goals-per-game record in Portugal.

It wasn’t a difficult finish this time, but the former Coventry ace would have been happy to end his five-game Premier League clean sheet run. The satisfaction of seeing the ball hit the net will have a bigger impact than the relief of his wide-ranging contribution.

It was probably the best half for the forward in an Arsenal shirt, but it was disappointing to see him substituted at half-time.

Title credentials

“It’s only October. We just have to keep working hard, keep winning games, keep building momentum and see what happens towards the end of the season,” Bukayo Saka said in the match preview.

Further wins will only create more buzz. Arsenal are currently nine points behind Manchester City and 10 points behind defending champions Liverpool, but have played more games. However, as Saka said, they have only played 10 games.

But the manner of the victory is perhaps even more impressive. “Arsenal were fantastic in the first half,” said Alan Shearer. “I don’t see any weaknesses.

“They scored again from a set piece, but there was more to the performance than that.”

The Gunners look like the real deal.

Stingy

Arsenal did not allow Burnley a single shot in the first half. The Clarets found a way forward in the second period, but were unable to hit the target and trouble David Raya.

The last time Arsenal conceded was over a month ago against Newcastle, so it may come as no surprise that the Gunners turned out to be so stingy. Seven consecutive clean sheets and seven out of 10 Premier League games says a lot. It is often said that defense wins titles.
