Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could return to Anfield next week as Real Madrid take on Premier League opponents in the Champions League
Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed he laughed about reuniting with former team-mates Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson at Liverpool. The Reds academy graduate is due to return to Anfield next week, with Liverpool set to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Alexander-Arnold is likely to receive a somewhat hostile reaction from supporters who are unhappy with the circumstances of his departure. And while the England star is aware of that, he says he never harbors any ill feelings toward Liverpool fans.
He also revealed that he had some funny text message exchanges with a number of his former team-mates when it was decided that Liverpool would play Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold told Prime Video Sports: “How I am perceived is for the fans to decide. I will always love the club and I will always be a fan of the club.”
“I will always be grateful for the opportunities we had and what we achieved together… they will live with me forever. No matter what happens, my feelings for Liverpool will remain the same. I have memories that will last a lifetime and that will remain regardless of how I am received.”

“After the draw, Robbo, Mo and Igbou (Konate) all messaged me. We were just laughing.”
He added: “When the draw was announced, everyone knew it was going to happen. That game was destined to come. It’s going to be a very difficult game. The reception and the atmosphere will contribute to that. They (Liverpool) haven’t had results lately, but they’re still a top football team and no one here expects it to be an easy game.”
As it stands, there is some doubt as to whether Alexander-Arnold will be part of the team. He was expected to play against Valencia this weekend, but Xabi Alonso opted for midfielder Federico Valverde instead.

In any case, Alexander-Arnold has vowed not to celebrate if he hits the net at Anfield. He said, “If I scored a goal, I wouldn’t celebrate. No.”
The defender also revealed his motivations for pursuing a move from Anfield. His England teammate Jude Bellinham also seems to have had a big influence on him.
“There was a lot of speculation… about ‘Agent Jude’. It was more so in his first season[at Real Madrid]… When you meet him in the England camp, everyone wants to know what it was like behind the scenes[at Real Madrid]… He said it was incredible, he had never seen anything like it.”
“The desire to win and the expectation to win from the whole club. He thought very highly of the club. And at the end of the day I made a decision. I needed a change. I wanted a new challenge on and off the pitch.”
