Patrice Evra has spoken out about his mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease and the loss of her leg, and also revealed that she has dedicated some of her social media uploads to Instagram to her mother in a special way.
Patrice Evra revealed in an Instagram post that she wears one shoe as a tribute to her mother Juliette. The former Manchester United star recently spoke to Jeremy Lynch on PlutoTV.
The conversation then turned to social media, where Evra was questioned about why he didn’t wear a shoe on his left foot in a particular upload. To which he replied, “Every time I get asked in the comments, ‘Why is he wearing one shoe?'”
“‘He doesn’t have enough money’ or whatever. No, in fact, every time I do a video, when I’m not wearing my left shoe, I dedicate every video to my mom.

“In 2010, when I was with the French national team, my brother called me and said, ‘Patrice, I want you to come to the hospital.'” He said his mom was suffering from stomach problems.
“I asked my manager and I went to the hospital the next day. When I got to the hallway, everyone was crying. I saw my brother and sister. I said, ‘Wow, this is strange.’
Evra then described the horror she experienced when she entered her mother’s room and discovered that her mother’s leg had been amputated. He added: “Then I went to my room.
“My mother was on the bed, so I kissed her. Then I sat next to her. It was only when I took off the blanket that I realized that my left leg was missing.
“Of course I went crazy. I almost killed the doctor who cut off my mother’s leg. I’ve never said it before because it’s personal, but it’s pretty funny when you look at it.
“But in reality, every time I shoot a video, I dedicate it to my hero, my mother. It was difficult at first, but she dances with her prosthetic leg.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Evra also explained that his mother has Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive brain disease that impairs thinking and memory. But, he noted, she “remains positive.”
Evra retired in 2019 after enjoying a glittering, trophy-winning career. Evra, 44, joined CSF Bretigny in 1997 before signing for Marsala the following year.
The Frenchman then had spells at Monza, Nice and Monaco before joining Manchester United in 2006. Under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, Evra won five Premier League titles, seven domestic cups and one Champions League before moving to Juventus in 2014.
He represented Marseille and West Ham in 2017 and 2018 respectively, before ending his career in 2019. He also played in 81 games for the French national team.
