Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been contacted by Wolves as the Premier League bottom club look for a new manager to replace sacked Vitor Pereira.
Wolves have been dealt a second blow in their search for a new manager after learning Erik ten Hag is reluctant to replace Vitor Pereira. Wolves sacked Pereira after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at Fulham and are looking for a replacement.
The club are at the bottom of the Premier League, without a win in 10 games, and their bottom position is making their reinforcement process difficult. Former Wolves manager Gary O’Neill, who was sacked by Wolves in December 2024, ruled out a return on Monday after discussions with the club.
Ten Hag, the Dutchman who was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen at the start of the season, is on Wolves’ shortlist alongside Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards. He was Manchester United manager for two-and-a-half years before being sacked in October last year when the club brought in Ruben Amorim.
Ten Hag is available but reportedly unwilling to take charge of Wolves, who are already eight points clear of safety. Wolves have made contact through a third party, but The Times suggests they will face an uphill battle to secure Ten Hag’s services.

Wolves executive chairman Jeff See is under increasing pressure as he searches for a ninth permanent manager to take ownership of Fosun. Fans have reacted furiously to the latest move in the manager hunt, and less than a year after his dismissal, O’Neal’s chances of returning to the club are looking very bleak.
A group of supporters demanded answers from Fosun owner Guo Gongchang and declared a vote of no confidence in Shi. With Saturday’s trip to Chelsea just around the corner, the clock is ticking until a new manager is found.
Under-21 head coach James Collins and Under-18 head coach Richard Walker are in charge ahead of this weekend’s tricky game against Chelsea, after eight members of Pereira’s staff left under the Portuguese.
Edwards was with Wolves as a player and has been strongly linked with a return, which would mean leaving Championship side Middlesbrough. But like Ten Hag, he seems reluctant to take on the role.
“My daughter told me about it yesterday, so that probably says a lot about where I am with all of this,” the 42-year-old said Monday. “I understand that given my links with the club, but my full focus is on this job here, which is a great job, and trying to turn things around from the weekend with a really important game against Leicester.”
“This is speculation so it’s difficult to comment on anything other than Middlesbrough Football Club. That’s my focus. We’ve done a decent job so far and all I care about is winning tomorrow.”
“It’s all speculation. I never get drawn into hypotheticals and I don’t want to be drawn into anything. I love my job as manager, head coach at Middlesbrough and that’s all I want to think about. I just want to talk about us and Leicester, that’s all.”
