Chelsea will re-evaluate the situation surrounding Tyrik George ahead of the January transfer window after his summer transfer failed and he has now settled in the Blues’ side.
Chelsea are set to meet Tyrik George ahead of the January transfer window to get more clarity on his future, with the teenager set to have a big say in his next move.
The 19-year-old academy graduate was on the brink of leaving in the summer as he faced a £22m transfer to west London neighbors Fulham on deadline day. However, it fell apart later in the day, with the Cottages pulling the plug in the 11th hour.
RB Leipzig were also interested in George, but since staying at Stamford Bridge the youngster could force his way into Enzo Maresca’s plans. He has started and scored in games in the Champions League and Carabao Cup, and has also featured numerous times in the Premier League.
Maresca has been using George as a striker rather than a winger, but the teenager’s playing time could be reduced with Liam Delap returning from a hamstring injury. He had previously been advised that playing regular football was best for his development.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Joe Shields, Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment and talent, called George after the move to Fulham fell through and explained that he would welcome Maresca back into the first team, which he did.

Chelsea won’t be letting George leave on a permanent deal or on loan in the new year, but they will have discussions with the teenager and his camp to see whether his career is best suited to the Blues, who have a sizeable squad, or pastures new.
Chelsea have several academy players in their academy, including Reece James and Trevor Chalobah, but they have sold more than 40 freshmen players in the past decade, resulting in them making £315m in the last four seasons alone from the sale of academy talent.
George said he was able to realize his dream by scoring in the recent European win over Ajax. “We’re all young and having fun. We’re having fun on the pitch, that’s all. The manager tells us to have fun and be really free when we’re in the attacking area and that’s what we showed last night.”
“It’s a great feeling. I’ve wanted to score in the Champions League since I was eight years old. That’s what dreams are all about. I think it comes down to training every day. I think that’s what led to us winning. So we just keep going and keep going.”
