The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation after a Premier League soccer player was allegedly threatened with a gun on a busy street in London. The incident reportedly occurred while the player was walking with a friend, and police were called at 11:14 p.m. on September 6.
A football agent has been arrested and taken into custody following a chilling episode. The agent is suspected of brandishing a firearm in an attempt to incite fear of violence, The Sun reported. His clients include England players, and he is also being investigated for blackmailing and threatening friends of football players.
Despite the arrest, no charges have been filed against the agent. However, police raided his home in Hertfordshire two days after the incident.
He was granted bail on September 9 with the condition that he refrain from contact with the athlete.
Further restrictions were placed on agents, including a ban on visiting players’ club training grounds and traveling abroad. Despite this, a magistrates court judge agreed to change the bail conditions.
The agent asked for a passport for a pre-planned trip outside the UK, but it is understood he will have to hand it over to police on his return.
A source told The Sun: “This was a frightening incident and one that has shocked the business side of football.
“The players were understandably upset. It was shocking to be threatened with a gun.
“He reported immediately, which was the right thing to do for his safety. He has the support of his friends and the club and we all hope that his performance is not affected.”
“But significant questions will remain as to why this happened, and police are now trying to answer them.”
