Despite an excellent start to life at Barcelona, forward Marcus Rashford, on loan at Manchester United, believes he could have done better. Rashford has been in great form since joining the Catalan giants in the summer, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 14 appearances in all competitions.
However, the forward feels the score could have been higher had his decision-making been better. Rashford said: “I’m just trying to do the right things on the pitch. Even today I could have had more assists, more goals and sometimes I misjudged a shot or a pass.”
“But I’m going to have days like this. It’s always the team that matters and today we won, so I’m happy about this.”
“My focus isn’t so much on results. I know that if I’m doing the right things, I can always score or assist. My focus is on building a relationship with the team and feeling comfortable.”
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick fully agreed that the forward can develop further. “One or two more goals would be good for him, seeing as he has the chances,” Flick said after the weekend’s game.
“But of course we can be happy with him. I’m very happy with him. He can play at this level and I’m happy to show that. He’s a very important player for the fans, for the club and for his teammates.”
Rashford will aim to continue his good form next week as he faces a tough fixture schedule against Barcelona.
The Catalan team will face Belgian side Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday, before a crucial La Liga match against Celta Vigo.
With Barcelona already lagging behind in the title race, Flick will be keen to win back-to-back games.
They currently sit five points behind rivals Real Madrid.
The club also have important decisions to make regarding Rashford’s long-term future.
They have the option to secure his services permanently at the end of the season for around £26.2m.
