Erik ten Hag is reportedly on the radar of Wolves as they search for their next manager. The club, currently bottom of the Premier League, are looking for a replacement after sacking Vitor Pereira on Sunday, with Ten Hag emerging as a surprise candidate.
Pereira’s fate was sealed in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Fulham, which abruptly ended his spell just weeks after penning a new three-year contract. The Portuguese manager only arrived in December 2024 to replace Gary O’Neill – and now he too is in talks to make a sensational return.
O’Neill, who is currently without a club, is in active negotiations with Wolves over a return to the dugout he has occupied for 16 months. However, The Athletic understands that Molineux bosses are looking for alternatives, with ten Hag, who was released by Bayer Leverkusen, among the options.
Ten Hag left the Bundesliga after three disastrous games in September. This was his first role since leaving Manchester United, during which he won the League Cup in 2022 and the FA Cup in 2023 during his two-and-a-half year reign.
His spell at Old Trafford ended in October last year, after which Ruben Amorim was appointed as his successor. Ten Hag is on a shortlist that also includes former Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick and Rob Edwards, who is currently managing Boro’s Championship campaign.
Commenting on Pereira’s dismissal, Wolves executive chairman Jeff See said, “We are grateful to Vitor and his team for working tirelessly for the Wolves and helping us get through a difficult period last season.”
“Unfortunately, this season has had a disappointing start. Despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and games to find improvement, we have reached a point where changes must be made. We thank Vitol and the staff for their efforts and wish them the best of luck in the future.”
