Liverpool’s situation worsened with another loss to Crystal Palace.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott’s job is safe despite being sent off in tears during the EFL Cup home game against Crystal Palace. The Merseysiders lost 3-0 at home to the Eagles on Wednesday, their sixth defeat in seven games and their second defeat against Palace in this period.
After paving the way to Premier League glory in his first season at Anfield, Slott’s form suddenly fell off a cliff. The Reds started the season in perfect fashion, winning each of their first seven games in all competitions. However, they lost six of their next seven games, leaving Liverpool in seventh place in the league standings and unable to participate in the Carabao Cup. It’s enough to amplify the noise from outside, and some wonder how far the form has to fall before Mr. Slott’s work is discussed.
However, the simple fact is that slots are currently under no pressure and are very well supported by those at the top. The Dutchman’s achievements in winning the league title in his first season under Jurgen Klopp have given him a lot of credibility within the bank and Liverpool have no intention of making a managerial change during their current bad patch.

Questions have been raised as to whether Liverpool would return to his predecessor Klopp in a dire situation. And the Reds’ most iconic manager of the last decade or two, who left Anfield in 2024 after suffering burnout, has already hinted that a reunion could be possible if the stars align.
Speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast in early October, he said: “I said I would never coach another team in England, but that means (if I were to return) it would be Liverpool. So, yes, in theory it’s possible.”
To his credit, Slott admits the pressure on his position has increased in light of Wednesday’s loss. That said, he didn’t feel the second loss in seven games to the Eagles really changed anything.
“When you’re playing for Liverpool, when you’re managing Liverpool, there’s pressure when you’re doing so well,” he said at Anfield after the midweek defeat. “I don’t think that has changed much after this loss.
“There are multiple reasons why we lost so many games, but all of them are no excuse for losing so many games. But it didn’t help that there were only two days between all the games we lost and we had to play away.”
Liverpool had designated a second team team with only academy players on the bench, so they were expected to be at a disadvantage at home in the cup match. But Slott defended his chosen team when asked if he had shown enough respect for the game.
He added: “It always hurts to lose a football game, especially when it leads to elimination from the competition. But it’s the same choice I made last season in a round like this. There are a lot of reasons why we lost five of six or six of seven. None of them are good enough to accept this many losses.”
