Vitor Pereira’s position is under scrutiny as Wolverhampton Wanderers sit bottom of the Premier League after failing to win their first nine games.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have no immediate plans to sack manager Vitor Pereira. The Portuguese manager clashed with supporters after the defeat to Burnley at the weekend, but his job appears to be safe despite his on-field struggles.
Wolves, who face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, are at the bottom of the Premier League after nine games. In the league, they have yet to win with seven losses and two draws, and their goal difference is -12.
Pereira joined Wolves in December 2024 after Gary O’Neill was sacked, with the team sitting 19th in the Premier League at the time. He guided the club to safety, with a six-game winning streak in March and April clinching the deal, as they finished around 17 points clear of the bottom three. Owner Jeff See gave Pereira a new contract earlier this season despite his on-field struggles. The club’s stance has not changed and the manager still enjoys support.
Wolves’ slow start comes after a difficult summer, with last season’s top scorer Matheus Cunha leaving for Manchester United and his replacement Tolu Alokodare taking time to find his form. The Nigerian striker opened his account with the club in the Carabao Cup third round win over Everton but is yet to score in the league.

Wolves produced a spirited comeback against Burnley on Sunday, coming close to winning the game as they went from 2-0 to 2-2 at half-time. However, it was all in vain as Lyle Foster stunned Pereira’s team with a late winning goal for the Clarets.
After the match, fans clashed with Pereira on the field and with goalkeeper Jose Sa in the Molineux parking lot. However, in his comments after the defeat, the manager understood some of the supporters’ frustrations.
“It’s normal to be frustrated with last-minute results and it’s normal for supporters to be frustrated,” he said. “In my opinion, the team deserved support because the players gave their all on the pitch to win the match.
“We understand, because it’s hard to maintain balance after losing again. But we need them. We can’t fight alone, the players can’t fight alone. We need them, and we can unite and do it together.”
He added: “I have a lot of football experience. A few months ago they sang my name. When I came here the club was in a very bad position and we are in the Premier League because together we won.”
“We’ve done a great job here to be in the Premier League, but we understand it’s football. If you win two or three games in a row, everything changes. I’m worried about the team. I’m worried about winning games. It’s not about me, it’s about the team, it’s about the club.”
