Trent Alexander-Arnold has denied speculation from Liverpool supporters that he was studying Spanish in preparation for a move to Real Madrid. The defender completed his move to the Spanish giants over the summer following the expiration of his contract at Anfield.
During the presentation, Alexander-Arnold spoke surprisingly fluent Spanish, leading some Reds supporters to speculate that he had learned the language long before his move was confirmed. However, he has now dispelled that theory by revealing that he only started lessons in May and the transfer was completed later that month.
In a video that went viral on social media, he said: “Hello, I’m Trent and Sara and I started learning Spanish 5 months ago.
“I didn’t speak any Spanish before that. I wanted to learn Spanish to better communicate with my teammates, coaches, and Madrid fans and to adapt better to the culture.”
“I really liked the lessons because they were very soccer-based. The terminology we were learning was the vocabulary you need to talk about in press conferences, interviews, and on a daily basis with your teammates within the club.”
“This was very helpful and I really enjoyed every lesson.”
Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold’s instructor also provided insight into his tuition fees. Sarah, a soccer language expert, said on social media: “It took five months. It took that long, but it wasn’t easy.”
“Trent didn’t just learn Spanish; he chose to start from scratch, to sound imperfect, and to keep showing up every day.
“When he stood on that stage in Madrid and spoke calmly, clearly and with heart, it wasn’t about fluency, it was about respect, courage and a genuine desire to belong.
“As his language coach, that moment meant everything because what I saw was not just a player speaking another language, but a human being growing beyond himself.
“In soccer, words can build trust, connection and identity, and this is what true professionalism looks like.”
