Marc Göch’s future remains uncertain, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich competing to sign the Crystal Palace captain either in January 2026 or when his contract expires.
Bayern Munich are committed to signing Marc Gehi, and the German giants have one advantage over Liverpool. Guehi’s contract expires this summer and he is scheduled to leave Crystal Palace in 2026, but his transfer destination and departure date have not yet been determined.
Liverpool had previously come very close to signing Guehy in the summer and were seen as favorites to sign him. The England international had completed a medical and was ready to take part in a £35m move by the time Palace chairman Steve Parish canceled his contract on deadline day.
Coach Arne Slott wants Guehi to add depth to his central defensive options, with Giovanni Leoni unavailable due to injury. However, Slott has hinted that Liverpool are in no rush to sign Guehi in January, which could put them at risk of losing him to Bayern.
Like many of Europe’s top teams, Bayern are also interested in signing Gehi, who could be tempted to follow in the footsteps of his England teammate Harry Kane and move to Bayern. Bayern are aware that they could lose Dayot Upamecano at the end of the season as his contract expires, and they are targeting a move for Gehi.

Bild newspaper reported that sporting director Christoph Freund has discussed Guehi with Palace manager Oliver Glasner. Bayern do not believe Guehi has been linked to Upamecano’s possible departure and, like Liverpool, believe it is too good an opportunity to turn down.
Importantly, through the Bosman ruling, Bayern will be able to speak to Guehi about a possible summer free transfer on January 1st. Liverpool are familiar with the situation, having lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid in similar fashion in the summer.
Bayern have already begun preparations, with sporting director Max Eberl already meeting Gehi’s representatives in Munich. Guehi was keen to leave Palace for Liverpool in the summer, but it remains to be seen whether he will change his mind.
Commenting on the recent situation, Glasner said: “I think Marc has already told us that he won’t sign a new contract and will leave next year. The club wanted him to stay. They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, “No, I want something different.”
“And that’s normal. And for us, it’s how we handle this situation. What’s the best way to complete the next steps? And that’s all about how we talk.”
Despite the situation, Guehi has continued to wear Palace’s captain’s armband and has appeared in 15 games in all competitions so far this season. He remains an important player for the club he joined from Chelsea in 2021 and will leave in 2026 with the best of luck.
