Mainu has only logged 138 minutes in seven Premier League games this season. The playmaker will be hoping to secure more pitching time to improve his chances of making it into England’s World Cup squad.
According to reports in Italy, Napoli will “try again” to secure Mainu’s services. The current injury crisis is likely to further increase their ambitions.
Kevin De Bruyne faces several months out after suffering a muscle strain after scoring a penalty against Inter Milan. The 34-year-old has been a steady presence in the team since joining on a free transfer in the summer.
Stanislav Lobotka is also out due to injury and will be replaced by former Chelsea player Billy Gilmour.
Additionally, Conte will be without former Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa when he represents Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations later this year.
Securing Mainu’s signature will undoubtedly become more attractive for Serie A leaders looking to deal with shortages in their squad.
When discussing Mainu’s situation earlier this season, Amorim acknowledged the player’s desire for more game time, but suggested a move elsewhere would be rejected.
“Like many players, he wants to play more. I didn’t have a conversation with him before the end of the game, but I did this week,” Amorim said.
“Because I don’t want Koby Mainu to think that I was having these conversations just to keep him. I don’t want him to feel like that.
“I have a lot of faith in Koby, but there are some people who think Koby Mainu is already done (completed article). I think he can be better, I think he can be even better.”
“I think it’s enough (talent) for some players, but not enough for him. Maybe it’s unfair, but I think it’s helping Koby Mainu. That’s it. He’ll have the same chance as any other player.”
