Liverpool’s misery continued in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace, where they lost 3-0 to Oliver Glasner’s side and Arne Slott has been forced to face some serious problems since then.
Arne Slott believes his job is still secure despite Liverpool’s dismal form against Crystal Palace. Last season’s defeated Carabao Cup finalists extended their rotten run against the Eagles at Anfield.
Two first-half goals from familiar foe Ismaila Sarr put Palace in complete control against a much-changed Liverpool side. Yeremy Pino then scored late on to blame the Reds for the loss.
Liverpool suffered their sixth loss in their last seven games. Slott didn’t look happy when the final whistle blew, but despite the pressure, the Dutchman doesn’t think his job is in any more danger than before.
He said: “When you’re doing so well, if you play for Liverpool, if you manage Liverpool, there’s pressure. I don’t think that has changed much even after this defeat.”
Slott admits there are reasons for Liverpool’s poor form, but refuses to suggest such a poor result should be the result.

He also disputed the idea that the team should not have changed much against Palace. “Anyone who knows this club or follows this club will know that we use this club for young players in this competition,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports.
“There are multiple reasons why we lost so many games, but no matter what the reasons are, you can’t make excuses for losing so many games. It didn’t help, though, that there were only two days between all the games we lost and we had to play away.
“If you play with players who missed pre-season, as I did with Alexander Isak, you run the risk of getting injured again, and at the moment we only have 15-16 senior players.
“It always hurts to lose a football match, especially when it leads to elimination in the competition. But it’s the same choice I made last season in a round like this. There are many reasons why we lost five out of six games, or six out of seven. None of them are good enough to accept so many losses.”

Slott also believes Liverpool’s hectic schedule is contributing to their current dire situation. He added: “Take as an example our performance against Brentford, two days after our away game against Frankfurt.
“We saw a team struggling to play three games in seven days, and that’s not an excuse either, but if you look at the struggles the players have had during pre-season, and you look at the players who have come from different leagues, it’s not a complete surprise to lose a football match. Playing level three games in the Premier League and Champions League in seven days is a new challenge for them.”
Liverpool return to action this weekend when they host Aston Villa at Anfield. Slott’s side currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League, already seven points behind current leaders Arsenal.
Following the match against Villa, Liverpool will return to Champions League action to take on Spanish giants Real Madrid.
