Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard is set to return to TNT Sports for the Reds’ Premier League match against Aston Villa, in a match between his two former clubs. Gerrard enjoyed a legendary career at Anfield before moving to Los Angeles Galaxy in 2015, but returned to Kirkby as Under-18 manager.
However, he left his role in Liverpool’s youth organization to take charge at Rangers, where he led them to Scottish Premiership glory, before moving to England’s top flight with Aston Villa. After 11 months at Villa Park, Gerrard was made redundant. He then took up a management position at Al Etifaq, but resigned in January.
Gerrard will return to Anfield this Saturday to analyze his former club’s performance.
Liverpool will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing four-game losing streak, but will face a team managed by Unai Emery, who replaced Gerrard and is currently unbeaten in six games.
Joining Gerrard in the showdown at Anfield will be former Liverpool team-mates Steve McManaman and Joe Cole.
The 45-year-old has recently been in the spotlight following his interview with former England international and Manchester United nemesis Rio Ferdinand.
Gerrard has spoken about a potential return to football management as rumors of a return to Ibrox grow following Russell Martin’s sudden departure.
However, following discussions with senior management at Gers, the former England captain refused to return as manager.
In a conversation with Ferdinand, he confessed: “That’s how I felt batting at Rangers (with Gary McAllister and Michael Beale). I don’t think the many managerial changes at Aston Villa and Saudi didn’t help me from a personal point of view.”
“I would love to try again someday, change some things, improve some things and come back fresh with some different people around me.
“We want to take a few more challenges with this and that’s what we’re working on in the background right now.
“I have some different ideas and I have some different people around me.
“Right now I’m enjoying time with my family and doing a lot of things I haven’t been able to do before. But there’s a part of me that feels like there’s still some unfinished business and I’d like to take on some more exciting challenges.”
