Sheffield Wednesday took over as manager on Friday, with the Owls set to find a new owner following Dejayvon Chansiri’s reign at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday could have a new owner before the end of the year, with several potential bidders already linked. The club’s co-manager Chris Wigfield said he had received “concrete” interest in buying the club.
The Owls were placed into administration by coach Digifone Chansiri on Friday and are currently looking for a new owner. Wednesday was handed a 12 point deduction after being said to owe HMRC £1 million, leaving them bottom of the Championship with minus six points.
Following a series of protests and boycotts over Chansiri’s ownership following the news, thousands of fans returned on Saturday, with the 2-1 loss to Oxford at Hillsborough drawing a season-high crowd of 27,261. Following the club’s administration, supporters have spent over £500,000 on tickets and club shops to keep the Owls afloat.
The club has attracted a lot of interest, but EFL regulations require it to remain on the market for 28 days. Wigfield said he expects four to five of the investigations will turn out to be reliable.
Mr Wigfield said: “As always, there are a number of interested parties that probably do not meet the criteria, but out of the large number of inquiries we have received, we are confident that there are already four or five interested parties that appear to be genuine.”

“There are two basic criteria that must be met for a new owner to have the opportunity to start a dialogue and make an offer.
“First of all, they need to show the administrators that they can keep the football club afloat. So they have to show that they have enough money to fund the club for the next few years.”
“And secondly, we need to be satisfied that they pass the EFL suitability and suitability test. If they can satisfy both of those, then we will start to have serious conversations with them.”
Wednesday’s new owner could be known by the end of next month, when a preferred bidder is identified. And Wigfield believes the club could be active in the January transfer window.
“By EFL regulations we have to market the club for 28 days,” he said. “Therefore, it will take at least 28 days to move closer to preferred bidder status.
“So hopefully by the end of November we might know who will buy the football club.
“And if the EFL allows the new owners to sign players, we hope that a deal can be signed this year and that the new owners can get them in time for the January transfer window.”
