Rhodri Giggs is preparing to step back into public life more than a decade after his brother’s shocking betrayal of his ex-spouse. The 49-year-old has been dating Victoria Phillips for over 12 months and proposed in early October.
The pair officially announced their engagement on Instagram this week, with Victoria sharing a photo of her dazzling ring with the caption: “October 18, 2025.” Rodri joked: “I couldn’t have said yes sooner. Thank you everyone. I agree she’s very lucky.”
The announcement was flooded with warm congratulations, with Coronation Street actor Andy Whyment commenting: “Congratulations to both of you.”
This isn’t the first time Rodri’s romantic relationships have attracted media attention. In 2011, it was revealed that his older brother Ryan Giggs had been having an affair with his then-wife Natasha.
The relationship, which began in 2003, caused a serious rift in the family, and Rodri and Natasha’s marriage ended in divorce.
The relationship took place while Ryan was still married to Stacey, who subsequently began divorce proceedings in 2017. Nevertheless, Rodri has since reconciled with his brother and also admitted that he benefited financially from the situation.
“Over 14 years ago, I had two children with someone else and was making a lot of money,” Rodri said earlier this year in response to social media comments about the incident, according to GB News.
He added: “I’m done with it. That was 14 years ago and I made about £1 million doing it. There’s no way I’m going to ride the X and expect a few pieces of debris to fly around. It’s all part of the fun.”
Rodri, who currently hosts a podcast and works as a recruiter, shot to fame in 2011 when his affair became public. Giggs’ younger brother also enjoyed a career as a lower-league footballer, with spells at clubs such as Salford and FC United before moving into coaching and eventually retiring.
Rodri’s engagement announcement follows his recent criticism of the Premier League’s decision to exclude his brother from the list of Hall of Fame candidates last month. “Home to great players, two more players will be voted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2025,” the Premier League posted on social media.
Rodri, who noticed Ryan had been left out of the nominations, responded with a montage of Giggs’ memorable moments with Manchester United, writing: “13 Premier League medals, countless goals and record Premier League assists. #TheShamHallOfFame.”
Giggs did not make the shortlist, but several former United colleagues did, including Patrice Evra, Teddy Sheringham, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic, Edwin van der Sar and Michael Owen. Furthermore, Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Cesc Fabregas, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Eden Hazard, David Silva and Yaya Toure made up the rest of the list.
Ultimately, both Neville and Hazard secured induction into the prestigious Hall of Fame, with the Premier League announcing on Wednesday: “Eden Hazard, this is where you belong. Welcome to the Premier League Hall of Fame.”
