Ruben Amorim follows Manchester United’s victory over Brighton to impress former player Danny Welbeck as Manchester United win three Premier League games for the first time
Former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck claimed Ruben Amorim’s side were “the best United team I’ve played against in a while” after beating Brighton for three wins.
The Red Devils continued to build momentum, scoring a hat-trick of Premier League wins for the first time since February 2024. Amorim endured a lot of criticism amid talk that he could lose his job, but he watched his team defeat the Seagulls 4-2.
Brighton won at Old Trafford last season, but found themselves 3-0 down at Old Trafford before a second-half rally and conceded the game-winning goal. It meant United could build on their victory claim against Liverpool eight days ago.
Welbeck had previously enjoyed success against his old club, getting his name on the scoresheet again, but this time he lost. The frontman was very impressed with the organization they were up against, something that had been cited as an issue before.
He told Sky Sports: “They’re the best (Manchester United) team I’ve played against for a while. They’re really organized and structured, they always have great players and today they really punished us for our mistakes. It’s a difficult game, but it’s one we can look back on and analyze. I believe we can come here and get the three points.”

Amorim defiantly adhered to his beliefs and system, often claiming that his defeats were not due to the formations or tactics he employed. United’s manager has said he has no intention of making any changes, despite not having all the players available for his plans.
Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes continue to form a midfield pairing that has been used against them this season, but the pair helped United pick up another three points at the weekend. With this win, they surpassed Liverpool and are now level on points with Manchester City.
Three of United’s four goals were scored by summer signings Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and Amorim believes the Manchester side are becoming more and more like his side.
He said: “I think they have more confidence. I think their best game this season was the first game against Arsenal. But when you get a little more confidence, you have a different mentality and sometimes a little bit of luck in certain moments of the game can help you win the game.”
