Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa confronted supporters outside the stadium after a heartbreaking last-minute defeat at home to Burnley. As a result, they are the only Premier League team yet to win this season. Vitor Pereira’s side were 2-0 down within the first 30 minutes, but Jorgen Strand Larsen pulled one back from the penalty spot.
Marshall Munetsi then equalized late in first-half stoppage time. However, Lyle Foster delivered a devastating blow in the 95th minute, beating Sam Johnstone. At the final whistle, Pereira was seen in a violent confrontation with a supporter and was asked to attend to him as Southbank chanted, “You’ll be sacked in the morning.”
“We understand the frustration of our people and supporters, but we have to say that if we fight together, we can win games, compete and achieve our goals. Without them it would not be possible,” the Portuguese coach said after the match. “If we win two or three games in a row, things will change.
“Two months ago they sang my name because, along with what we achieved last season, we are playing in the Premier League and not in the Championship. Now they are singing my name to sack me.”
Sa, who was dropped for four games in a row, was challenged by furious fans outside Molineux over Wolves’ dismal start to the season.
“When I get home, I don’t talk to my wife because I’m sad because we lost,” he can be heard saying in a video that went viral on social media.
The 32-year-old continued his conversation for several minutes with fans demanding answers.
In response to the video, one Wolves supporter said: “Fair play to Sa, you might not think he’s a great keeper but it’s not his fault and he’s coming forward like he should.”
“So why don’t we just yell at Jose Sa, who isn’t even playing?” asked a second person, before another added: “I’m on Mr. Sa’s side. That person is not involved in today’s turmoil.
“He wasn’t at his best when he was on the pitch, but he wasn’t a villain at all today. Leave him alone. Go after Vitor Periera and Jeff See, not him.”
