Matheus Cunha paid a classy tribute to Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes after he made his 300th appearance for the club against Brighton on Saturday. Fernandes joined from Sporting in 2020 and has established himself as a true fan favorite and reliable player since moving to Old Trafford. The Portuguese maestro has scored 100 goals and provided 87 assists for the Red Devils, earning him two major accolades so far.
He celebrated his 300th appearance against Brighton and played a pivotal role in securing a 4-2 victory. The 31-year-old produced a captain’s performance, dominating the midfield as the Red Devils secured a third successive win. After Fernandes reflected on the important milestone on Instagram, Cunha posted a heartfelt message to his United colleague.
“Celebrating my 300th in the best possible way (hands up emoji),” Fernandes wrote along with several snapshots from the match. Cunha responded on her Instagram Story with “300 kap” and two clapping emojis.
Brian Mbeumo, Aiden Haven, Amad Diallo, Lenny Yolo and Matthijs de Ligt were among those to comment on Fernandes’ post confirming United had reached the milestone.
As for the match itself, goals from Cunha and Casemiro gave United the advantage in the first half, before Mbeumo extended the Red Devils’ lead to three points shortly after the break.
Danny Welbeck and Sharalampos Kostoulas threatened to pull back for the visitors, but Mbeumo’s second goal and United’s fourth sealed victory.
After the match, Amorim reflected on his team’s victory over Brighton and said: “I feel good. I think we played well, but we suffered a bit at the end and it was our fault for allowing the first goal.”
“At that time in the game, you could feel we were close to the fourth goal, but we didn’t score one. But they did everything. They ran, they made plays on the ball, they held the ball when they needed to. So, it was a good game.”
“We were controlling the game but conceding the goal made us suffer a little bit. They have a lot of talent.
“They have good quality of the ball, they control the ball and use their momentum to control the game, but they are getting better at dealing with bad moments and they did that again today.
“Our reactions are a little bit better, which is really important. We know how to suffer. If we can suffer together, it becomes much easier to win games.”
