Jadon Sancho’s talent and potential mean he has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or, claimed by the former Borussia Dortmund coach, despite his struggles since joining Manchester United.

Edin Terzic, Jadon Sancho’s former manager, believes he can still win the Ballon d’Or after his unsuccessful spell with Manchester United during his time at Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho left the German team in 2021 after a few impressive years in the Bundesliga, joining Old Trafford for £72 million. He regularly contributed with goals and assists, but these depleted upon his arrival in Manchester and he was unable to command a high fee.
His death and a highly publicized clash with Erik ten Hag saw him frozen out until 2024, when he returned to Dortmund on a six-month loan. There, he contributed to the German national team’s advance to the Champions League final, shocking PSG and other teams, and was the driving force behind Terzic’s strong comeback.
The unemployed coach has managed the likes of Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Sancho, all of whom claim they are capable of winning the game’s top individual award. Sancho is currently on loan at Aston Villa, but Terzic insists he has the talent to win the Golden Ball.
He told the Telegraph: “All these players have the potential to win the Ballon d’Or in the future, including Jadon. From a talent point of view, if you talk about Jadon, you probably five years ago would also talk about Ousmane Dembele[who won the IY this year with PSG but also had disciplinary problems].”

“I’m talking about talent and potential. The difference is that Erling can get to this level by staying hungry. Jadon can’t get to this level by keeping a smile on his face. And Jude needs to do both.”
One of the things that ruins Sancho is that he is not good at being punctual. His attitude has been criticized in the past, with Terzic claiming that when he worked with British players he tried to bring joy to the game while promoting professionalism. “On the pitch I tried to convey Jadon’s joy as a kid, and off the pitch I tried to convey Jadon’s joy as a professional athlete,” he said.
Sancho is by no means serious at Villa Park. He ultimately paid a loan penalty for Chelsea last season to get out of his deal with United, but he has yet to score since then.
The 25-year-old was once a regular in England’s squad and featured in Euro 2020, but missed the infamous penalty in the final. He fell out of favor under Gareth Southgate and has not been close to being recalled in recent years.
Marcus Rashford was criticized by several United fans for his attitude after he commented “freedom” on a social media post showing him leaving for Barcelona. Villa paid a one-year loan fee to sign Sancho, who is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and United have the option of a further 12 months.
