Alejandro Garnacho wasted no time in proving his talent to Chelsea supporters with his first Premier League goal for the club. The Argentine found the back of the net just four minutes into Saturday’s match against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
The goal came as a result of Pedro Neto’s precise pass that broke through the Black Cats’ defense. Garnacho, 21, then dribbled effortlessly past Nordi Mukiele and slotted the ball between the legs of Robin Rufus and into the goal. In a moment of pure joy, he sat on the billboard and extended his arms toward the home fans, as if to say, “Who else but me?”
This display of skill proves that Garnacho could be a valuable addition to Chelsea if given the chance. Since joining the Blues, his playing time has been limited due to stiff competition from the likes of Neto, Estevao and Jamie Gittens.
Following his impressive goal, Chelsea fans were quick to praise the young talent on social media. One fan commented: “It’s crazy how every time a player leaves Manchester United they flourish”, while another called him the “Argentine Ronaldo”.
Another supporter wrote: “He was out of line and he’s back,” while a fourth said: “Super transition. That’s why we brought him in. Pace and volume in the box!!!”
Garnacho moved to London this summer after becoming disgruntled with Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United. There was a chill at Old Trafford when Garnacho criticized the team who finished 15th last season and expressed his disappointment at being left out of the Red Devils’ Europa League final game against Tottenham. The match was ultimately lost 1-0.
Garnacho then secured a £40 million move to Chelsea during the summer and clearly improved in a short period of time. To date, he has made 7 appearances for the club in all competitions.
