Sheffield Wednesday have been placed into administration, but they are finally set to sack their owner, who remains the worst owner in English football history.

James is the Sports Editor for the Mirror website. He is often spotted watching Sheffield Wednesday miserably on his weekends off from work.

In the end, Digiphone Chansiri left without leaving anything behind.

History will look back on Sheffield Wednesday’s hapless former Thai owner as one of the worst managers in the history of English football.

His reign of terror finally came to an end on Friday when he was left with no choice but to put the club into administration. An impending liquidation claim from HMRC over around £1.7 million in unpaid tax was one millstone too many.

After leading Wednesday to within one Premier League game in his first season as owner in 2015-16, he treated fans with nothing but disrespect and disrespect for the next 10 years.

His narcissism went so far as to plaster his name on a seat at Hillsborough, which has already been removed ahead of tomorrow’s game against Oxford United.

The match will see Wednesday residents descend on their beloved homes in droves to inject cash into the club following a plea from administrators.

Owls fans are boycotting spending inside the stadium, with the Supporters Trust calling for a complete halt to purchases in club shops and eateries.

There are virtually no walk-ups on matchdays, only season ticket holders attend games, and only one goal and one point have been scored so far at home.

Season ticket holders were also urged to stay at home or in the pub for Wednesday night’s match between Owls and Middlesbrough, which was broadcast live on Sky Sports in front of an almost empty stadium.

The administrators revealed that the fans forced Chansiri’s hand in their determination to force him out of the club by withdrawing his spending.

Chansiri thought he could take charge of the fan base. One of the biggest and most loyal clubs in English football. His idea was wrong.

It follows a summer that left Wednesday with just 15 seniors. The club currently has five EFL name embargoes and is prohibited from spending any transfer fees over the next three transfer windows.

Players and staff have not been paid on time in five of the past seven months. Despite all this, Chansiri stubbornly refused to sell.

There was no shortage of reliable buyers. There are simply no reliable sellers. His outright refusal to negotiate anything resembling a fair price will likely leave him with an irreparably tarnished reputation.

He could have set back tens of millions of pounds. But his own stubbornness and serious stupidity were valuable to him.

I haven’t heard from Chansiri for months now. He is believed to be somewhere in Thailand. He must be embarrassed and absolutely humiliated by this turn of events. Will he? who knows.

On Wednesday, he lost 12 points. This put the team at -6 and placed them at the bottom of the championship, effectively confirming their relegation to Division 3.

It would also be remiss to ignore the impact of the administration on a large number of creditors, including football clubs, their employees and local businesses who are now likely to recover only a fraction of their outstanding sums.

What really saved the dire situation was that Sheffield 3, the company that owns Hillsborough as a separate entity from the football club, was also put into administration. This allows you to sell the club and ground as a package to potential buyers.

Now, the question is, who will buy this once-great facility and try to restore it to its former glory? There is no doubt that vultures will dominate, but there will be no lack of interest in buying the great old club.

Chansiri had no understanding of Sheffield Wednesday. He had no idea of the city and what the club meant to the thousands of supporters who have remained with it for generations.

I wrote on this page almost five years ago about how the club can’t truly begin to recover until it relinquishes ownership of him. Well, it is now. And that healing process will hopefully begin.
