Nottingham Forest have already appointed their third permanent manager for the 2025/26 season, with Sean Dyche taking charge following the departures of Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou.
Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Roy Keane has branded the club’s current players “stupid” and criticized their involvement in manager Ange Postecoglou’s sacking. Postecoglou was in charge for just 39 days and the Australian failed to win a single game since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo.
Forest have now taken over the reins with Sean Dyche becoming their third permanent boss of the season. The former Everton manager is set to take charge of Porto’s first game in charge on Thursday when they visit the City Ground in the Europa League.
Dyche will be the club’s ninth permanent manager since owner Evangelos Marinakis took over in 2017. Steve Cooper is the only player to have managed more than 100 games.
“Look at the Forest players and the chances they had. What chances did he (Postecoglou) have? Did they really want to score?” Keane, who played 150 games for the club in the early 90s, told Stick to Football.
“Did they want to keep them in their jobs? I think about good players not even reaching their goals. And when a manager loses his job, you look at the players at Forest and they’re like, ‘Oh, another manager’s gone, a new one’s come in’. It’s stupid, to be honest.”

Forest won their first game of the season under Nuno but have not won in any competition since then. Most recently, they lost 3-0 at home to Chelsea, which marked the end of Postecoglou’s short reign as manager.
Less than 30 minutes after the final whistle, Forest manager confirmed he had been sacked. His replacement, Mr. Dyche, was sworn in on Tuesday morning, less than 72 hours after he was fired.
Mr Keene’s fellow commentator Micah Richards was concerned about the dismissal. “It was inevitable but I don’t think it’s right. He’s only been given eight matches and the difference in style will always be a factor,” he told BBC Sport on Saturday.
“Forest went from being one of the best counter-attacking managers to being a more expansive manager, and it wasn’t going to work right away. Ange Postecoglou is a good manager, but maybe the media abuse didn’t help. He looked like the right guy, but he needed more time.”
“The interesting thing now is, is the next manager short-term or long-term? What are Forest aiming for? Was last season a one-off?”
After starting with the European competition, new manager Dyche will have a busy few weeks in the league. A trip to popular Bournemouth is scheduled for Sunday, while Forest also play at home to Manchester United and Leeds before the November international break.
