Mohamed Salah takes action on social media after being dropped by Arne Slott and having his stick stolen by a fan during Liverpool’s Champions League game against Eintracht Frankfurt
Mohamed Salah appears to have removed references to Liverpool from his social media accounts after being left out of the squad for the game against Eintracht Frankfurt. Salah was on the bench as Liverpool bounced back from a four-game losing streak by defeating Frankfurt 5-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Egyptian was sacked by manager Arne Slott following a string of ineffective performances, including Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United. He came on as a substitute in the 74th minute against Frankfurt with a point already secured, but he was unable to contribute and instead made the situation worse.
Salah was widely criticized by Liverpool fans for not passing the ball to a wide-open Florian Wirths when passing through in front of goal. Instead, he took a shot, but the attempt was saved by Frankfurt’s goalkeeper, doing him no favors with the supporters or the manager.
The 33-year-old signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool earlier this year but is currently in a difficult situation. And it appears the outside noise affected him, causing him to change his social media profile on Thursday.

Salah’s Instagram and X accounts have seen changes, with the former’s 65.9 million followers now seeing a black-and-white photo of himself with a header that says “Always believe” without any mention of Liverpool. Meanwhile, on X, where he has 19.4 million followers, Salah’s photos are with his children and have no profile. His posts about Liverpool are still there.
Slott opted to play Alexander Isaku and Ugo Ekitike together up front on Wednesday, with Kodi Gakpo and Wertz in support. The gamble paid off, with Liverpool scoring five goals after conceding.
Salah has three goals and three assists in 12 games this season, but his form has declined dramatically of late. Slott was forced to explain his decision before kickoff. “What we have to try today is to create as many chances as we have in the past few weeks, because it is very useful for both of our players to be able to score,” he told TNT Sports.
“We hope and expect that Jeremy Frimpong and Kodi Gakpo will use the creativity of Florian Wirtz to create something for them, around our two number nines.
“So we’re looking at how they normally set up and that’s the idea. They can play together and they showed that against United, even in the second half, but it means we have to have a slightly different set up in our midfield. Usually we play with one (number six), but now with Curtis (Jones) and Dom (Szoboszlai), one of the two has to be more defensively aware than usual.”
Jamie Carragher has made it clear that Slott has the right approach towards Salah. “When Mo Salah is not the legendary Mo Salah, he is treated like one of the other players and that is the right thing to do,” he said on CBS Sports.
“He’s 33 years old and Liverpool will play three games in six days. If he’s not at his best at the moment, he shouldn’t play three games in six days. There are other options. I know Liverpool have spent a lot of money. Liverpool also have big games coming up at the weekend. It’s a great decision, Arne.”
