Casemiro has been a key player for Manchester United this season, with manager Ruben Amorim continuing to select him over Manuel Ugarte and Coby Mainu in midfield.
Manchester United face the possibility of losing Casemiro to suspension again in the Premier League. The Brazilian ace has been a mainstay in United’s starting XI this season, appearing in six of their first eight league games, with his only absence coming in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford as his suspension was already in place.
Casemiro was in trouble after receiving two yellow cards which led to a red card in the 2-1 win over Chelsea in September. Manager Ruben Amorim decided to pair the 33-year-old with Bruno Fernandes in midfield this season, despite previous doubts as to whether he could still perform at the highest level.
However, the Red Devils may end up regretting the loss of the experienced midfielder with a long list of upcoming fixtures. According to Premier League regulations, players will receive a one-match ban if they accumulate five yellow cards within the first 19 games of the season, but that is still a long way off at the moment.

Amazingly, Casemiro has already been offered five cards this season, despite having played just seven games. Three of those count as reservations, as the other two led to his termination. He was booked in the first half of the 1-1 stalemate against Fulham and picked up two yellows in the win over Chelsea.
After receiving his first one-match suspension, the 80-cap Brazil international was on the referee’s books for back-to-back games against Sunderland and Liverpool, and will miss another game with two more cautions. If Casemiro is booked for Saturday’s game against Brighton and then Nottingham Forest, he will be ruled out of the crucial trip to play Tottenham Hotspur on November 8.
After 19 games, the threshold increases to 10 yellow cards, and players who accumulate yellow cards by matchday 32 will receive a two-match suspension. So far, Everton’s Keenan Dewsbury-Hall is the only player to receive a one-match ban for five yellow cards.
If Casemiro picks up two more yellow cards, Amorim will have no choice but to call up either Manuel Ugarte or Coby Mainu from his midfield reserves. Previously, the Portuguese player suggested that the latter was in contention with Fernandes, with Ugarte likely to be the first choice.
This leaves Maynou linked with a move away from United. Napoli are keen to reunite with Scott McTominay, who is currently on loan at Napoli, according to reports.
However, Amorim refused to accept any suggestion that the 10-cap England international would be allowed to leave when the January transfer window opens. “It’s normal and we know that in our club everything is so noisy and you have to know the news and the players are not playing,” Amorim said. “They want to play.
“Like you said, we have the World Cup. We have agents who are always listening in on the players’ conversations. So I understand that, but these are our players and we all need to have a good season.”
