Tottenham player evaluation vs Monaco: Vicario saves the day as three players in the 4/10 range struggle | Soccer | Sports

Tottenham failed to make a good impression, losing to Monaco in the Champions League for the first time in two years with a goalless draw. Both teams had chances to score, but no one could find the elusive breakthrough and the spoils were shared at the final whistle. The home side came close but were repeatedly denied by Guglielmo Vicario, who earned a clean sheet with some inspired play between the sticks.

The visiting team’s main problem was the lack of creativity from midfield, with Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur not quite good enough. Monaco will feel they deserved the win, but Vicario’s talent cost them all three points. The result was Tottenham’s first scoreless game in 125 games, with the north Londoners somewhat fortunate to avoid defeat.

Express Sport takes a look at how all of Tottenham’s players performed against Monaco…

Tottenham vs Monaco player ratings

Guglielmo Vicario – 9

Made a series of very important saves to keep the visitors even. The best player by some distance on the pitch.

Pedro Polo – 6

He ran tirelessly and worked hard, but nothing was worth his efforts because there was no end product.

Kevin Danso – 6

He looked composed on the ball and remained calm when not in possession of the ball in the defensive third.

Mickey Van de Ven – 6

He fulfilled his defensive duties well. He almost scored the first goal with a glancing header, but he took the wrong direction.

Archie Gray – 7

He played a decent game, covered a lot of ground and made some important interceptions and tackles.

Joan Parinha – 6

We did a lot of dirty work to break up play in the middle of the park, but possession was sloppy.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 4

Used as a passenger for most of the game. He wasn’t very involved in the play and offered little about the future.

Lukas Bergvall – 4

They lacked the creativity needed to break down Monaco’s defense. He found himself in trouble before the break and almost had a goal awarded to him.

Wilson Odbert – 7

He looked lively, but had problems with direct running and accurate crossing. An encouraging display.

Mohamed Kudus – 6

They put a few dangerous crosses into the box and tried hard to score, but they were unable to influence the result.

Richarlison – 4

Not his best game. They had a great opportunity to take the lead before the interval, but they barely showed their presence at the top.

substitute

Pape Matar Sar – 6

We made it in the middle of the park without setting the world on fire.

Xavi Simmons – 6

It was a perfect chance to break free, but the speed inexplicably slowed and the movement disappeared. Everything else was fine.

Randall Kolo Muani – 6

Although he performed better than Richarlison, he became starved of service as time went on.

Brennan Johnson – 5

When he showed up, he couldn’t do much. He was given a chance to score late in the game, but missed his first shot.

Jed Spence – 6

He played in the final 10 minutes and contributed to a clean sheet.
