Arsenal beat Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with the club’s action in the second half improving the atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal supporters have praised the club for introducing new measures to improve the atmosphere at Emirates Stadium.
On Tuesday night, the Gunners scored four goals in a 13-minute second half to beat Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League. After a dominant but frustrating first half, Mikel Arteta’s side turned things around and were rewarded handsomely with goals from Gabriel Magalhães and Gabriel Martinelli, and a brace from Victor Goqueres.
The crowd recreated what they saw and their enjoyment could be heard loud and clear as they celebrated their third successive Champions League win and clean sheet. Arteta has made it clear that he wants his home ground to be an intimidating place for the away team, and fans noticed that change on Tuesday night.
Fans who visited the concourse at half-time were greeted by a message that read: “The second half of tonight’s game will not be shown live on screen. Every supporter has a role to play. To create an unforgettable atmosphere, please head to your seats and watch the game!”

In the past, some supporters have been reluctant to return to their seats immediately after the second half, in part because they can watch the game on a screen while drinking alcohol. The club clearly felt it affected the atmosphere and took action that drew praise from fans.
A post on X said: “I like this. It doesn’t do anything practical but it shows the club recognizes and is proactive about what they can do to improve the atmosphere.” There were many similar comments in the replies.
“I noticed this too. Every little bit helps,” one fan wrote. “I really like this and I’m glad the club realized that,” added a second. A third wrote: “I really liked this move. I hope the game isn’t shown on live screens. The crowd everywhere was alive with the pure passion of the second half. Best atmosphere of the season.”
Another concluded: “I saw the same thing when I went outside to go to the bathroom. I think this is a great initiative and should continue. The concourse was almost completely empty.”
Last month, Arteta said he wanted to improve the atmosphere at home after Arsenal removed the tunnel cover at Emirates Stadium to bring fans and players closer together. “As a club we always have the ambition to create the best atmosphere in the world at the Emirates,” he said.
“We have the best supporters in the world and now we have to promote everything. The team has to give the supporters the right emotions every time they play in front of them. We also need to develop the stadium the way we want it and we need to ignite the will that every ball has to be played with us, because it makes a big difference.”
“We want to play and win what we want to win. That’s non-negotiable. Certainly, we need a stadium where we can create those moments.”
