Liverpool lost against Manchester United at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah unable to find the back of the net for Ruben Amorim’s side, ensuring the Reds suffered a fourth straight defeat.
Mohamed Salah and goals have become synonymous during his time at Anfield, so it’s no wonder Liverpool star Curtis Jones was hoping for success from his team-mate. Perhaps we were a bit overconfident in celebrating so early against Manchester United.
On Sunday, when the Reds were losing 1-0, a cross across the box avoided all bodies and reached Salah on the right. The Egyptian superstar had a fleeting chance in the 65th minute.
After Salah’s first touch, Jones was seen on camera running away with one arm already raised, ready to punch in the air. However, the ball stuck at Salah’s feet and United goalkeeper Senne Lamence narrowed the angle of goal for last season’s Premier League top scorer.
Unable to score against Liverpool’s rivals, Salah could only use his speed to poke the ball wide. The 33-year-old was eventually substituted in the 86th minute, even though the team were still chasing the match.
When the ball went out for a goal kick, Jones could only put his hands on his head in disappointment.

United achieved a shock 2-1 victory at Anfield, their first win since 2016. Heading into Sunday’s match, Salah had scored 15 goals and provided six assists in his previous 11 games with the Red Devils.
Salah hasn’t scored in over a month. In addition to Liverpool’s four-game losing streak, the form of their forwards has also been a hot topic of discussion.
“I think it’s pretty normal after a game like this for people to focus on individual players,” Slott said after the game. “After four or five games, we have signed players and now we have Mohamed Salah.
“We have a good chance to win the game. Mo missed a big chance and others missed big chances. We are not used to this situation with Mo.”
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has suggested that Salah is no longer one of the first names on Slott’s team sheet. “It’s a real headache for the coach. Let’s see what he does. It’s interesting that he came on as a substitute,” he said.
“Manager Jurgen Klopp often substituted him and this shows that even in the past Mo Salah’s game could deteriorate and he could be replaced, even if he still had energy and sharpness.”
“With Mo Salah, we’ve reached a point where he shouldn’t play every game. It can no longer be a case of ‘he’s the first name on the team sheet’. He’s still part of the best XI and still plays in home matches, but maybe it’s time to think differently.”
