Former Everton manager Sean Dyche has been appointed as Nottingham Forest’s new head coach following the sudden sacking of Ange Postecoglou on Saturday. Dyche arrived at the City Ground a month after the Friedkin Group bought the Toffees for £400m and nine months after leaving Everton.
Postecoglou received his marching orders from Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis less than 20 minutes after his side lost 3-0 at home to Chelsea. Postecoglou’s tenure at the City Ground was short, lasting just 39 days, and he failed to win any of the eight games he was in charge of.
Burnley’s win over Leeds means Dyche will take over at Forest, who are currently 18th in the table and mired in the relegation zone.
But Dyche has kept Burnley around for many years and brings a proven track record of lifting the team out of the bottom three.
Forest announced Dyche’s appointment in a statement on Tuesday morning, saying: “Nottingham Forest are delighted to confirm the appointment of Sean Dyche as the club’s new head coach following a thorough recruitment process led by Global Head of Football Edu Gaspard and Global Technical Director George Sirianos.”
“The former Forest youth player joins the club on a contract until the summer of 2027 and will take charge in the Reds’ first game in the Europa League against FC Porto on Thursday night.
“Dyche will be joined by the experienced coaching team of former Nottingham Forest players Ian Warne and Steve Stone, who both made over 400 appearances for the Reds in the 1990s.
“A respected and experienced Premier League manager, Dyche brings the perfect blend of personality, tactical acumen and track record to lead the club into its next chapter.
“Dyche, who has managed more than 330 Premier League games in his career to date, has built a team defined by defensive organization, resilience and strength from set pieces – qualities that closely align with the current team attributes and the club’s footballing identity.
“As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters. His personality, tactical acumen and people management skills give his appointment the best opportunity to deliver a successful and competitive season in both domestic and European competitions.”
