Atlético Madrid were furious at Arsenal’s situation on Monday night as players had no hot water at the Emirates Hotel after training, leading to a complaint to UEFA
Atlético Madrid have lodged an official complaint with UEFA after training at the Emirates Stadium, where the players ran out of hot water after training and were forced to return to their hotel early.
The Spaniard trained at Arsenal’s stadium in north London on Monday night ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League match. However, La Liga officials expressed their “surprise” and “anger” when the players shook themselves at the venue after discovering changing rooms without hot water.
They informed UEFA so that they could “acknowledge the unusual circumstances”. Atlético appear to have reported the matter to Arsenal officials before the start of the training session at 6:45 p.m.
However, the problem persisted when the short training stint ended at 7:15 p.m., with the players having to hop on the team bus and return to their London hotels to do laundry.
Atletico’s management are understood to have been troubled by the lack of hot water at the Emirates, one of England’s best grounds. Arsenal admitted the mistake and announced that hot water had been restored by 7:25pm, when the Atlético team departed. A plumbing issue resulted in no hot water in both the home and away locker rooms.

It was an unfortunate setback for Atlético’s preparations, which were aiming for more success than their recent trip to England. A few weeks ago, Virgil van Dijk scored a header in stoppage time as we lost 3-2 against Liverpool. Diego Simeone’s side fought back from 2-0 down to equalize.
Arsenal are one of six clubs with a perfect record in their last two games, while Atletico have picked up three points from six games. They responded brilliantly to the defeat at Anfield, defeating the Spanish capital Frankfurt.
Ahead of the contest, Mikel Arteta praised the shirt number of his opponent, who has been in charge of Atletico for 14 years. He said: “I think what he has achieved since coming to Atlético has been outstanding, not only in what he achieved, but also in the way he did it.
“I think the identity he has created for the club, for the team, for the spirit, is very simple and clearly discernible, and that’s because the manager is exactly who they are.”
“And it’s very difficult to achieve that in a short period of time, and it’s very difficult to do it for 14 years. I think he’s there now, he’s done incredible things, and yeah, it’s an honor to meet him.”
