Liverpool suffered a fourth straight defeat on Saturday and are in danger of falling further back in the Premier League title race, this time at the hands of rivals Manchester United.
Liverpool are currently in 4th place in the Premier League after losing four games in a row. Manchester United’s first win at Anfield in nine years made the Reds’ dire situation even worse, making their title defense an uphill battle.
Manager Arne Slott is facing his most difficult period to date with Liverpool on the brink of crisis after failing to capitalize on their chances against the Red Devils. It was a frustrating afternoon for the Merseyside outfit despite Brian Mbeumo’s opener and Kodi Gakpo leveling the scores despite Liverpool hitting the woodwork three times.
In contrast to last season, Harry Maguire scored the winning goal, leaving Liverpool four points behind league leaders Arsenal. The defeat left the Reds behind Manchester City and Bournemouth in the standings.

Reflecting on the challenges of management, the Reds’ head coach said, “I think as a manager you always face challenges,” “So when you first take over, you’re a new manager and you have to win games.”
He added: “Then, if you do well, you go to a bigger club and people ask what you’re going to do there, but because you’re Jurgen Klopp’s successor, people will say, ‘This is the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced.’
“Right now we have lost four games in a row, but that is also a challenge. Being a football manager is also a constant challenge. If you lose a game, you want to start winning again, so will you lose confidence? That remains to be seen.
“Every game we’ve lost, we’ve been able to create some incredible chances in the second half.
“So if you look back at the three games we lost in the Premier League, I would say that apart from all the highlights, there is very little chance of us losing this game.
“So if we can continue to produce what we’re doing and maybe do some things a little bit better, there’s every reason to expect us to win football games again.
“But I can’t promise that on Wednesday evening we’ll be able to create eight, nine or even 10 open chances. I hope so and with the players we have it will lead to us scoring more goals.”
“And of course, apart from the two goals we conceded, there’s also the part where we probably conceded two or three more chances.”
However, things will not get any easier for Liverpool as Slott’s side face tricky tests against Aston Villa and Manchester City early next month. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s next three games look set to be much easier until tough games against Tottenham and Chelsea at the end of November.
