Liverpool narrowly fell short in Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions. The Reds created many chances throughout the encounter at Anfield, but lost 2-1 to the visitors as Ruben Amorim recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time as Red Devils manager.
Liverpool got off to a poor start, with Brian Mbeumo putting the visitors ahead just two minutes into the game. The hosts pressed forward in search of an equalizing goal and were rewarded with Kodi Gakpo slotting the ball in from close range after hitting the woodwork three times. However, Harry Maguire scored the winning goal six minutes before the end. This result followed Liverpool’s defeats to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea, and the Reds’ season came to a rapid end. Additionally, there are four players in the slot who should be released due to poor results.
alexander isak
Alexander Isak has had a difficult start at Anfield after his hugely successful move from Newcastle in the summer.
The Sweden international is yet to score for the Reds in the Premier League and was guilty of missing a few chances against United.
Liverpool have started the season in great form with Hugo Ekitike leading the charge up front, but the Frenchman will need to be brought back into the starting lineup in place of Isak until the former Magpies striker comes into his own.
alexis mac allister
Alexis Mac Allister was left in a heap on the ground after colliding with teammate Virgil van Dijk ahead of United’s opening game at Anfield.
And from that moment on, the Argentine struggled to assert his authority in the match, unable to prevent the visiting team’s barrage of attacks and barely able to move forward.
There is plenty of talent in the slot, with the likes of Florian Wertz, Curtis Jones and Jeremy Frimpong all keen to start. And Mac Allister will soon be on the bench as well.
Milos Kerkes
Milos Kerkes was nervous at times against Amorim’s team and made many mistakes. The Hungarian left-back starred for Bournemouth last season but has struggled to find his footing on Merseyside.
And Slott should rely on Anfield hero Andy Robertson, who will look to strengthen the backline and give the team a different edge in attack.
conor bradley
Conor Bradley has been another weak link for Liverpool in recent defeats, with the right-back lacking the attacking power that his predecessor Trent Alexander-Arnold provided in the slot. And the academy graduate has also been exposed defensively.
Slott could move Frimpong back into the fold on the right, or the Dutchman could rely on either Dominik Szoboszlai or Curtis Jones to reposition the midfield. Either way, it’s unlikely that Bradley will retain his starting spot in the coming weeks unless he improves quickly.
