Manager Diego Simeone clashes with Liverpool fans during Atlético Madrid’s last visit to England, Arsenal to decide whether to beef up security ahead of Tuesday’s match
Arsenal have decided not to provide additional security for Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, despite his clash with Liverpool fans last month. Simeone, 55, is known for his erratic behavior on the touchline and got into an argument with a Liverpool supporter late in the teams’ Champions League match at Anfield last month.
As punishment, the Argentine was suspended from the touchline after watching from the stands a 5-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in their next match in Europe. However, Simeone will be back in the dugout for Atletico’s next trip to England, as Arsenal take on the Spanish giants on Tuesday.
However, as reported by The Sun, Arsenal chose not to beef up security. The Gunners are not expecting anything like what happened at Anfield, but Steward will be in his usual position in the case of Aggro.
Arsenal’s visiting team’s dugout is also far removed from the home fans compared to the close-knit nature of Anfield. Atlético’s 3-2 defeat on Merseyside gave Simeone plenty of inspiration, especially when Liverpool supporters cheered him on as they celebrated Virgil van Dijk’s winning goal in the 92nd minute.
The Atlético manager had to be held back from a crowd of Liverpool fans by stewards and his own coaching staff, and received a red card for his angry reaction. UEFA subsequently found Simeone guilty of “unsporting conduct”.

“First of all, I regret the role I played,” the 55-year-old admitted afterwards. “It’s clear that we are in a position where we have no right to react, and it would be wrong to react.
“It wasn’t easy to be in the position I was in and to be insulted throughout the game. After the third goal, I watched from afar. I saw the third goal go in and turned around, but the insults continued. Well, I’m human too.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking forward to facing Simeone for the first time in his managerial career. “What he has achieved since coming to Atletico has been outstanding, not only in what he achieved, but also in the way he did it,” Arteta said.
“The identity he has created is simple and clearly recognizable because the manager is just who he is. That is very difficult to achieve. He has been there for 14 years and what he has achieved is incredible.”
“He’s someone I respect. He still has the ability to convey his passion, how long he’s been in the game, his desire to win. It takes an exceptional ability to keep convincing players in this environment.”
