Manchester United bowed out late to a famous victory over Liverpool as Ruben Amorim enjoyed his finest hour as manager. Brian Mbeumo scored just 61 seconds later, leaving the Anfield crowd in stunned silence, despite hints of controversy during the build-up. But that was never the end of the story, with Liverpool holding their breath until they finally broke through.

Kodi Gakpo hit the post three times and scrambled the ball into the back of the net to tie the game. All the momentum was on Liverpool until Harry Maguire’s bullet header snatched a dramatic victory. It was a memorable day for long-time fans as United suffered a fourth consecutive defeat against their arch-rivals.

Express Sport rates United’s players and plans after today’s dramatic win…

Manchester United player rating vs Liverpool

Senne Ramens – 8

Although we conceded a goal that we couldn’t do anything about, we played another good game. It should start every week.

Matthijs de Ligt – 8

He turned his head to everything that came his way and was not afraid to put his body at risk.

Harry Maguire – 8

He was a commanding presence on the last line and became United’s hero, jumping out with the winner.

Luke Shaw – 7

Although he was out of position a few times, his defense was strong for the most part.

Amado – 8

He created the opening goal with a brilliant pass using the outside of his foot and created a showpiece in the final third. It’s really dangerous.

Casemiro – 7

He remained calm in the center of the park until he was substituted, making use of his extensive experience.

Bruno Fernandes – 8

He was active on both ends of the pitch. He missed a big chance to double United’s lead, but provided the assist for the winning goal.

Diogo Dalot – 6

He fulfilled his defensive duties well. Although his future offers have decreased, it wasn’t a bad match by any means.

Brian Mbeumo – 8

He finished brilliantly and found the back of the net with his first goal, silencing the home crowd. It seemed lively overall.

Mason Mount – 6

He was a little quiet in terms of his involvement in the attack, but did make a difference in his running before being replaced.

Matheus Cunha – 7

He worked hard to create chances in the final third and although he couldn’t score or assist, he should be proud of his efforts.

substitute

Manuel Ugarte – 6

He played the last 30 minutes and did his job well in the middle of the park.

Patrick Dorg – 4

He was brought on with an hour left on the clock, but poor play at both ends of the pitch contributed to the equalizer.

Benjamin Sesco – 6

They moved the channels well and led the press with ferocious force, but were unable to score.

Yoro Lenny – n/a

This is a belated addition.

Koby Mainoo – n/a

This is a belated addition.
