Liverpool failed to sign England international defender Marc Guehi on the transfer deadline day, following his departure from Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Marc Guehi will leave the club, months after his failed move to Premier League champions Liverpool. The Austrian revealed that the England international will not sign a new contract and will subsequently leave the club on a free next summer.
Liverpool realized their bid for Guech had failed on deadline day, as Palace were unable to sign a replacement in time. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Igor Julio was on the verge of completing a move to their Selhurst Park rivals, but opted for a loan move to West Ham instead.
This meant Guehi remained in south London until at least January. At that stage, Liverpool are expected to return next summer to complete the transfer.

There are reports that Palace could sell him in the winter transfer window, which would be their last chance to recoup his achievements. “I think Marc has already told us that he’s going to leave next year because he’s not going to sign a new contract,” Glasner said on Friday.
“The club wanted (him) to stay. They offered Marc a new contract.
“But he said, ‘No, I want to make something different.’ And that’s normal.
“And for us, it’s about how do we deal with this situation? What’s the best way to complete the next steps? And that’s how we’re talking about it.”
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will make a move in January. It was initially reported that they would not be racing again in the new year.
But then 19-year-old defender Giovanni Leoni suffered a season-ending knee injury. The Italian was stretchered off during his debut against Southampton and underwent surgery to correct the problem.
Gehi’s contract expires at the end of the season, but Liverpool also face the possibility of losing Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer, as his contract expires at the end of June. With his contract expiring in the summer, Gehi will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January 1st.
Liverpool and Premier League rivals Manchester City are said to be interested, but there is also interest from overseas, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also said to be interested in the former Chelsea youngster. Palace chairman Steve Parish revealed that Guehi’s European commitments were one of the reasons why his move to the Premier League champions was scrapped.
“It’s a difficult decision,” Parrish told talkSPORT. “It’s as simple as these things are never black and white.
“In the end, I decided, based on the advice I got and my own thoughts, that we would have a better season if we kept Marc. We’re not going to speculate on these things.
“If you think about it rationally, given the value of the Premier League and the fact that we’re in a conference league for the first time in our history, this is a very unusual situation to keep a player. If we were fighting between 10th and 14th place and that was the difference between keeping Mark and letting him go, we would probably say: ‘Yes, we should take the money.’
