Marcus Rashford has made a harsh assessment of his time at Manchester United, with Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney hitting back at the on-loan Barcelona forward’s comments.
Wayne Rooney says Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United nightmare is his fault, not the Red Devils. The England forward has endured a frustrating few seasons at Old Trafford.
He was publicly unpopular with Ruben Amorim before his loan move to Aston Villa late last season. Rashford was sent off again this year and signed a provisional contract with Spanish giants Barcelona.
He claimed that being in an “inconsistent environment for a very long time” during his time in Spain led to his under-par performance. But Rooney hit back at Rashford’s claims, suggesting it was up to Rashford to get into the best frame of mind to perform.
Speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show, the United icon said: ‘I don’t think the circumstances were right but it’s up to you.
“I think if you don’t play well or get cut from the team, rightly or wrongly, it’s easier to blame the environment. I think it comes from the way you approach yourself.”

“We know from the games we’ve seen with him that he can do more, he can run more. It has nothing to do with the environment. I could be wrong here. I really like Marcus as a kid and as a person, but I think that’s something that’s easy to throw at people.”
Rashford, 27, has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona, scoring three goals and providing five assists. Rooney’s comments come after he claimed consistency is needed in life to perform to the best of his ability.
In an interview with ITV, he said: “Certainly consistency is a big part of it. I feel like I’ve been in an inconsistent environment for a very long time, so it’s even harder to be consistent.”

“But I completely agree. I think consistency is what you need to bring to your game, and that’s what I strive for. I want to be at my best as often as possible, not just once in a while.”
“When people talk about consistency, in order to be consistent in anything, not just sports, you need consistent variables in your life and the way you train. There have been so many changes in my career so far.
“But I have to move forward. That’s definitely one thing I want to fix and improve to be at my best more often. When I’m at my best, I really enjoy everything about the sport.”
