Liverpool could reap a big windfall in January with a potential deal involving former Reds manager Brendan Rodgers in the pipeline months before the window opens
Liverpool could be set to reap a second windfall following Bobby Clarke’s £10m departure from the club. Shortly after Arne Slott took charge at Anfield, the Reds sold the midfielder to Red Bull Salzburg in Austria.
Liverpool have agreed a deal worth around £10m for Clarke, who reunited with former Reds assistant Pep Linders in Austria. The 20-year-old made 25 appearances for the club during his debut season.
Clarke was surprisingly loaned to Championship side Derby County at the start of this season, and it looks like he could be on the move again soon. According to the Times, Celtic have agreed a £6m deal with Salzburg, with the move expected to be formally announced in January.
The move means Clarke will now play under former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and could make his debut for the club against Celtic’s rivals Rangers on January 3. He also has a 17.5 per cent sell-on clause included in his contract, which would be a welcome bonus for Liverpool. The clause could be worth just over £1 million to the Reds.
Jonathan Eustace, who currently manages Derby, spoke about the possibility of a transfer as follows:

“I think we brought Bobby in to help him develop and give him a place to perform. He’s certainly done that so far. We’re going to get a lot more out of him. I think we’re developing him the right way.”
“This is the culture and environment we have set here at Derby. The player coming will develop properly and it’s great that a big club like Celtic is paying attention to him, but we certainly don’t want him to go anywhere.”
Asked if there was a clause in his contract that could lead to a move, he added: “I’m not aware of that. Listen, January is still a long way off. I’m not worried about that. Let’s continue to give him important minutes and see how he performs between now and then.”

“I know they’re getting better, their numbers are getting better, they’re feeling better. We’re going to worry about that in January.”
“The most important thing is that Bobby is our player, at least until then, and we continue to work well with him and he continues to perform well with us,” Eustace said.
Clarke made his debut for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp at the age of 17 and made 14 appearances before leaving. He has made 10 appearances for Derby so far during his loan spell in the Midlands, scoring one goal.
