David Beckham has reportedly been approached by the FA about England using Inter Miami’s facilities for a warm-weather training camp ahead of next summer’s North American World Cup. Beckham, co-owner and president of the Florida-based MLS team, has been consulted by England officials who visited the club’s Fort Lauderdale facility.
Sky Sports claim the Three Lions chiefs have also toured several other venues since securing their place in the tournament. In preparation for the tournament, England will travel to America to acclimate their players. Thomas Tuchel and the FA’s sports scientists aim to give players at least a week, and possibly longer, to acclimate to the intense heat and humidity.
The weather is expected to have a big impact on the tournament, and England staff are keen to ensure they are fully prepared. At this summer’s Club World Cup in the United States, both coaches and players expressed concerns about the weather.
FA officials are scouting around the country and evaluating numerous facilities in preparation for the Dec. 5 draw in Houston. Once England’s group and opponents are known, the FA can plan.
England’s location for the next tournament, to be held in Canada, the United States and Mexico, remains unclear. The sheer number of host cities means teams can play in vastly different environments, including Seattle, Vancouver, Mexico City, and Guadalajara.
The ideal practice base can have a huge impact on the atmosphere during the four-week tournament. England have performed well in recent major competitions, but this will be the first time since 2016 that they will be without Gareth Southgate at the helm.
Tuchel’s team secured their place in North America with a 5-0 victory over Latvia earlier this week. This means England are yet to concede in the qualifying campaign and the team is in good form.
However, with several notable players absent this time, Tuchel has been frequently questioned about his squad selection.
The England manager expressed his satisfaction earlier this week, saying: “It’s been great, there was a really good atmosphere in the dressing room.”
“It’s a very different feeling because it was our dream to go to (North) America. And now we have achieved that and also achieved a good performance and a great result. We have six wins and six clean sheets now, so we are very happy. We have the upper hand in the game.”
