Manchester United are already very proactive about transfers in 2026, with Jack Grealish expressing his approval of one goal in particular.
If Manchester United were looking for more reasons to sign Adam Wharton next summer, Jack Grealish has given them one. It came after the Everton winger fired back in praise of the Crystal Palace midfielder.
Ruben Amorim is expected to change his options in the engine room next summer, with Casemiro and Koby Mainu potentially headed for an exit. And the Daily Star reports that a £60m offer has been floated for Wharton after Amorim took a liking to the England international.
Wharton, 21, joined the Eagles from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024 for an initial transfer fee of £18 million. And the youngster quickly became an integral part of Selhurst Park, helping the club win the FA Cup and secure a return to European competition earlier this year.
Although he was unable to prevent a 2-1 defeat against Everton just before the international break, he still carried out his task admirably. At least that’s according to his opponent and match-winner Grealish, who gave glowing reviews to potential suitors, including United.
The Everton winger suddenly spoke. “Adam Wharton today…I see the Man of the Match award over there. I think it’s coming to me. But it should have gone to Adam Wharton because, in my opinion, he was the best player on the pitch.”
After spending a lot of money on upgrading your attack, your next focus should be on your midfield. Casemiro’s £300,000-a-week contract is due to expire in the summer of 2026, and it is understood the Red Devils will not exercise their option to extend it by a further year.
Mainoo is one of the most promising players to come out of United’s academy in modern times. Still, Amorim is reluctant to use the 20-year-old, who is aiming to make his first start in the league this season.
Manuel Ugarte has also been used fairly sparingly, despite his previous relationship with Amorim at Sporting CP. Mason Mount has recently regained some support at Old Trafford, but has been plagued by a series of injuries in Manchester.
Wharton has been left out of manager Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad for games against Wales and Latvia. But just as his level of play is beyond his years, the midfield star gave a mature response when asked about his absence.
“He just sent me a message that I’m playing well, I’m close, I deserve to be there, but he’s going to stay in the same team,” he told reporters when asked if Tuchel had contacted him about his absence from the team.
“That’s football, I’m not making too much of a fuss about it. I can take a holiday and go see my grandparents and I have another camp next month so it’s not the end of the world. My focus is on Palace and if that goes well then England is just a bonus.”
