Arsenal sit at the top of the Premier League table when top-flight action resumes this weekend, and Mikel Arteta will be keen for his side to continue their excellent form. The Gunners have been unbeaten since the beginning of September and fans were in a frenzy ahead of Saturday night’s game against Fulham.
Arteta observed that his star player excelled in international matches in October. But with Craven Cottage beckoning, he will regret having reserved his best displays for club duties. Express Sport brings you everything you need to know about the latest developments from Emirates Stadium this week.
Zidane praises Arsenal target: ‘He has quality’
Zinedine Zidane has praised Arsenal target Kenan Yildiz’s ability to continue to impress at Juventus. The Gunners have long coveted the forward and recently sent scouts to keep an eye on the 20-year-old during his game against AC Milan.
London neighbors Chelsea made a £61m offer for the Turkish sensation during the summer period but it was rejected, but Arteta could include him on his January shopping list. Zidane told Fanatic he is keen to see the Old Lady develop further after some promising performances.
The former Real Madrid legend said: “I like him. He’s a good player. He scores goals. He has quality. He still needs to grow and prove himself.”
“Juventus are doing well with Tudor. He is gradually improving. I am happy for him and for Juventus.”
Mikel Arteta issues Premier League winner warning
Joleon Lescott believes Victor Gokeres does not have what it takes to lead Arsenal to Premier League glory. The striker, who joined from Sporting CP during the summer transfer window, has so far scored three goals in 10 appearances for the Gunners and has failed to impress the former Manchester City defender.
In an interview with Sky Bet, Lescott described the Swedish forward as simply “okay”, insisting he was not good enough to give Arsenal the elusive title win. “I would describe Victor Gokeres as ‘okay’,” he said.
“If you want to win the league, you can’t just be a striker. You have to be at the top. I don’t think Mikel Arteta can get Arsenal over the line in the Premier League.”
The 43-year-old hinted that the north London side could succeed on the continent, saying: “But it’s different in the Champions League.
“You never know what form and fitness the team will be in because of the way he rotates and the big gap (before the knockout stages).
“That suits Arsenal better than consistently doing well every week to win the league.”
Mosquera praises Arsenal striker’s ‘beast’ qualities
Cristian Mosquera was adamant in his support of Goqueres’ abilities and dismissed Lescott’s claims that the striker was not the solution Arsenal needed in attack. The Spanish centre-half praised the Swede’s excellence in training, insisting he is strengthening the Gunners’ defense every time they train.
“He’s a beast, an animal,” Mosquera said in a recent interview with Spanish newspaper Diario AS. “Training with him improves the defenders. Valencia had great players, but to train with such top-level players is a big step forward.”
Mosquera proved a reliable replacement for the injured William Saliba, keeping two clean sheets and securing three wins in four Premier League games.
The Gunners have suffered just one defeat this season, against champions Liverpool, and look to be in top form as domestic matches resume on Saturday.
