Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been heavily involved in the Manchester United job in recent weeks and his chairman Steve Parish has given his thoughts on the situation.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has revealed that preliminary talks have begun with Oliver Glasner over a new contract, although he has admitted that he has ambitions to acquire additional silver following recent speculation about him joining Manchester United. United are still heavily linked with finding a replacement for Ruben Amorim after a difficult start to the season.
The win against Sunderland before the international break took some of the pressure off his position. Along with this, Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly declared his desire to give Amorim three years to prove himself.
Despite this, there remains uncertainty as to whether the position is permanent, especially if United fail to qualify for next season’s European competition. If Amorim were to face a crisis, Glasner has emerged as one of the leading candidates for the role.

The Austrian rose to prominence at Selhurst Park after winning the FA Cup last season and leading Palace to a club-record 19-game unbeaten run, a run that was only halted by Everton last weekend. Glasner’s contract with the Eagles runs through the end of this season, and so far no new contract has been reached.
When asked about the manager’s future on talkSPORT, Parish revealed that negotiations were ongoing. “We had some early discussions,” Parrish explained.
“We want to keep Oliver. We’re building something.” But Parish admitted Glasner is a manager with high ambitions and is aiming for more trophies in his career after leading Palace to their first major win.
“I think the important thing for Oliver is that the conditions are right,” Parrish added. “It’s all about how he enjoys his work and finds favorable conditions to achieve.
“Oliver wants to win things. He doesn’t try to hide it and that’s what he’s about in football.
“So I’m hopeful that if we can align those interests, we can make something happen.” Asked directly this week if he would be interested in taking United on if they offered him an offer, Glassner chose to dodge questions about his future.
“As I said, whether I succeed or fail, I try to protect myself and keep it at bay,” he said after receiving the Coach of the Year award at the Sporthilfe Gala in Austria. “A few years ago, I developed the habit of living in the moment and enjoying it.
“It’s simply better not to lose 19 games than not to win 19 games. It just makes the atmosphere on the practice field better in the morning and makes everything easier.”
“I’m as ambitious, I’m as demanding, and I get just as frustrated when I lose like I did now. Even if it’s my first loss in six months, I’m one of the worst losers in the world and I’m still frustrated by that.”
