Salford City will play in orange next season after supporters voted to change the club’s colors back from red. Red was introduced when the “92 Class” took over.
Salford City fans are adamant in their support of a return to the traditional orange kit, after overwhelmingly rejecting the red that was introduced over a decade ago. The club is set to return to its historic Tangerine Strip for next season, ending a 12-year experiment that sparked fierce opposition from supporters.
The controversial livery change came as the star-studded consortium, including ex-Manchester United players Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs, took control of the non-league side alongside Singapore great Peter Lim.
The change to red sparked furious protests from the terraces, with fans chanting “We are Tangerine” during the match as word of the change spread. In protest of this decision, some supporters boycotted the first match under the new regime.

David Beckham joined Mr Lim’s ownership in 2019 after acquiring a 10% stake in the company, and Gary Neville acquired Singaporean Mr Lim’s entire stake last summer.
The pair completed the buyout of their former Old Trafford team-mate in May, spearheading a new ownership structure that includes businessman Declan Kelly and former banker Sir Mervyn Davies.
Neville has now reversed one of his first choices made more than a decade ago, with supporters backing changes to the legacy by an overwhelming 77.1% margin after extensive consultation.
The club also announced “significant work to be carried out at Peninsula Stadium to update the cladding and seating, among other infrastructure improvements already planned” ahead of the new campaign.
It added: “This ground-breaking choice will evolve the club into a bold new era by combining our tangerine heritage with modern style to create a striking orange identity.”
Salford also announced that “further consultation will take place with supporters” regarding the club’s crest, which has been changed along with the colors.
