Koby Mainu has struggled to feature for Manchester United this season and the midfielder has been linked with a move from Old Trafford
Manchester United midfielder Koby Mainu has been in top form during the October international break, despite struggling to secure a place in manager Ruben Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford. The Stockport-born youngster has found it difficult to compete with Bruno Fernandes for a starting spot and his playing time has been limited.
Mainu has been used in an advanced number 10 role, but the signings of Matheus Cunha and Brian Mbeumo further complicate his chances of starting there. The 20-year-old requested a loan move from United after failing to feature in any games this season.
With the World Cup nearing the end of the season, Mainu needs regular playing time to be considered for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad. However, Amorim refused Mainu’s request, insisting that he was needed as a member of the team.

United have yet to play a Premier League game this season, so the transfer question is likely to resurface when January kicks off. But if Mainu is frustrated at Old Trafford, he cannot let it affect his professionalism.
During the October international break, Mainu flew to Marbella to prepare for his return to the Premier League. Basking in the Spanish sun, Mainu has been training both on the pitch and in the gym.
The midfielder also shared a snap of himself training in the gym, captioning it: “Blessed.” It must be a joyous sight for Amorim to see Mainu maintain a professional attitude.
The midfielder, on the other hand, is undoubtedly keen to realize his moment of glory as soon as possible. United face Liverpool in their next Premier League game this Sunday afternoon.
“I didn’t have a conversation with him before the window closed because I didn’t want Koby Mainu to think that I was having a conversation just to keep him. I did have a conversation this week,” Amorim said last month.
“I have a lot of faith in him. He is a top player. But some people think that Koby Mainu is already finished (the perfect player). I think he can do better.”
“(Talent) is enough for some players, but not for him. It might be unfair, but I think I’m helping Coby and that’s it.”
