The Women’s Super League match between Arsenal and Brighton was halted for 10 minutes in the second half after a player required emergency oxygen treatment due to a worrying head injury. Brighton star Maylis Mpome was defending a cross when the ball hit her in the face.

The incident led to alarming scenes as medical staff initially treated the Brighton player on the pitch before placing him in a neck brace and putting him on a stretcher. Six medical workers helped carry her from the scene wearing an oxygen mask and an oxygen tank. Mpome received a standing ovation from Brighton supporters at the Emirates Stadium after the match was suspended for a long time. At the end of the match, there was a total of 13 minutes of stoppage time.

Brighton traveled to north London in search of their third league win of the season.

However, 15 minutes into the game, Marisa Olis put the ball into her own net, putting her on the back foot. The visitors were then forced to endure immense pressure as Arsenal looked to grab a second goal.

Just after the hour mark, Mpome tried to tuck in a cross from Arsenal’s left flank, but was hit by the ball. And the Brighton

Arsenal held on to their lead and moved up to fifth place in the Women’s Super League standings, with an eventual win.

The Gunners have won three of their six league games this season, with Renee Sleggers’ side also defeating London City Lionesses and West Ham in September.

The north London club have since drawn with Manchester United and Aston Villa, before suffering their only league loss of the season to Manchester City last weekend.

The team finished second behind Chelsea last season and will aim to move up the Women’s Super League table in the coming months. Sleggers’ side will return to league action at Leicester in early November after a Champions League match against Benfica in Portugal on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Brighton ended the weekend in seventh place in the table after suffering their third defeat of the season.

Dario Vidosic’s side have struggled on the road, having already lost to Manchester City and Tottenham on the road.

However, the Seagulls’ record on home soil has been even stronger, having defeated Everton and West Ham in their last two home league games following a goalless draw with Aston Villa in the opening week of the season.
