Former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere is closing in on his first senior head coaching job after impressing in negotiations with League One side Luton Town.
Jack Wilshere is in pole position to win the Luton Town job after impressing in negotiations with the Kenilworth Road authorities, and it is now understood that a deal is close.
The Hatters, who were relegated from the Championship last season, parted ways with Matt Bloomfield last week after a crushing 2-0 defeat at local rivals Stevenage. And Luton moved quickly to find a new head coach, holding talks with the 33-year-old Wilshere and a number of other coaches.
However, according to BBC Sport, Wilshere has emerged as the club’s first choice. The former Arsenal midfielder has previously held coaching positions at the Emirates and Norwich City, where he briefly served as caretaker manager for two games, but Luton’s appointment, if agreed, will be his first permanent head coaching job at the top level.

The prospect of Wilshere linking up with Luton comes less than two months after it emerged that Arsenal had approached the former midfielder about the possibility of rejoining the club in the role of Under-21 manager.
However, Wilshere turned down the opportunity and made no secret of his desire to move into the senior manager’s role following his short spell in charge of Norwich at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Wilshere, who was Arsenal’s under-18s coach before moving to Carrow Road in October 2024, said in an interview with The Athletic earlier this year:
“I didn’t want to take a step until I was ready to make an impact at this level, and it took me two and a half years. I can still improve and I still have the desire to get better, but I feel like I’m ready.”
