The former Manchester United captain remains the world’s most expensive defender at £80 million, but his contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer.
Harry Maguire is prepared to reject a £500,000-a-week deal to move to Saudi Arabia to remain at Manchester United – if they offer him a new contract.
Maguire’s contract expires in June and, as revealed last week, he is a target of Saudi Arabia’s Al Nasr and Al Etifaq.
The veteran England defender is set to be free to negotiate with clubs in January, with a move to the Middle East potentially sealing him a huge contract as he enters the twilight of his career. Maguire turns 33 in March.

There is a temptation for the player to cash in on what could be the last lucrative transfer of his career – especially if United stick with their future-oriented decision and do not offer him a new contract. They picked up an option on Maguire’s current contract last summer, but he ultimately had no choice.
But new indications are that United are indeed considering extending the defender’s contract. Negotiations will take place in the coming weeks, but Maguire will want assurances that this is the right deal for him.
Maguire knows that joining Saudi Arabia’s professional league will damage his chances of extending his career in England, either under Thomas Tuchel (if he continues beyond next summer) or under a new manager.
And if he commits his future to United, he wants to know that he will remain an integral part of the club’s plans no matter who becomes manager.
In a perfect world, Maguire would spend the rest of his career at Old Trafford. But he is mindful that the next deal he signs will be the last major contract of his career, so the terms will have to be right.
